Note: Ekka Wednesday is observed in Brisbane area only.

There are a number of Queensland public holidays in 2018 that are well suited to those who would take the time to explore the unique treasures this vast state offers, including pristine beaches, the Daintree Rainforest, and just offshore, the Great Barrier Reef.

As far as maximizing your holiday time with an extended weekend, try: New Year’s Day, which falls on a Monday in 2018, or Australia Day (January 26th), which falls on a Friday. Both create three-day weekends, but Christmas Day falls on a Tuesday and Boxing Day on the following Wednesday in 2018. Many Queenslanders will simply take the intervening Monday off with annual leave and gain a five-day holiday weekend.
