Bunbury Weekend Getaway

Bunbury is a small city in Western Australia. This coastal city is known for its lovely ocean views and comfortable weather conditions. Bunbury has a Mediterranean climate, and you can expect warm summers and cool winters. Due to oceanic winds, the area can become quite chilly during the winter months. The average monthly maximum temperatures in Bunbury range from 17 to 30 degrees. The area receives about 720 millimetres of annual rainfall.

History

Prior to the arrival of European explorers, Bunbury and the surrounding areas were occupied by the Noongar Aboriginal people. These indigenous people survived in the area for thousands of years by relying on marine resources. If you explore the untouched wilderness areas near the town, you may discover rock art and other artefacts. Bunbury was first explored by Europeans when Captain Louis de Freycinet arrived in the area in 1803. Freycinet named the bay near Bunbury after the Geographe, a ship in his fleet. Bunbury was officially established as a town of Western Australia in 1836.

Things to see and do in Bunbury

Bunbury is a historical city, so you may enjoy seeing lovely architecture from Australia’s colonial period. Rose Hotel and St. Mark’s Church are iconic buildings that were constructed during the 19th century. You may also enjoy touring old government buildings and homesteads.

If you enjoy unforgettable coastal views, walk to the highest point of the Marlston Hill Lookout Tower. This tall tower will provide you with stunning views of the Indian Ocean, Geographe Bay, and numerous beaches. On a clear day, your eyes will feast on a colourful marine world of blue and green hues. Back Beach is a beautiful location with several impressive rock outcroppings. Enjoy the ocean views from Rocky Point before you use your favourite fishing gear to catch large fish. The fish in Geographe Bay are large and numerous, so you will have plenty of opportunities to test your fishing skills.

Reflect on your exciting adventures in the area by visiting Shipwreck Cove. This is a gorgeous area that is isolated from the busy attractions of Bunbury. Enjoy a quiet picnic with your companions, or wade in the glass-like waters of the cove.
