Northern Territory Public Holidays 2018

This page contains a calendar of all 2018 Northern Territory public holidays. Please scroll down to view.

Northern Territory public holidays in 2018 are excellent opportunities to get away and explore the many attractions in this wild, wilderness-rich part of the continent.

Some long weekends in 2018 in Northern Territory will be as follows: Australia Day’s three-day weekend, as January 26th lands on a Friday in 2018; another three-day weekend when Queen’s Birthday (June 11th) falls on a Monday as usual; and a third long weekend when Picnic Day (August 6th) comes on a Monday.

Things to see and do in Northern Territory in 2018

Some things to do for your 2018 public holidays in Northern Territory include the following:

Explore Litchfield National Park, a vast, protected wilderness zone not far from Darwin. The park has many large and beautiful waterfalls, including Florence Falls, which is really a series of waterfalls and pools, the extremely tall Wangi Falls, and the more secluded and peaceful Tjaetaba Falls. The park is also popular for nature walks and for its many Aboriginal historic sites.

See Northern Territory’s most popular attraction, Uluru, also sometimes called Ayers Rock. This massive, orange-red rock sits isolated amid a sea of swaying grass and is visible for miles and miles in all directions. Uluru is a sacred place to Aborigines and is protected inside of Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, which also contains dozens of other impressive rock formations.

Tour the Tiwi Islands, a large, 11-island archipelago just north of Darwin. You will be required to obtain a special permit and an Aboriginal guide in order to visit. Once there, you will be immersed in the local Aboriginal culture and surrounded by pristine rain forests, abundant bird life, and unique fishing opportunities. Be sure to learn of the islands’ storied history and to visit at least one of the three Indigenous art centres.
